James River Floodplain clean-up effort this Saturday

Community Groups and citizens organize to help beautify area

Springfield, Missouri-Three community organizations will join together and launch a beautification project of the James River Floodplain this Saturday morning. Save Our Springfield Citizens Coalition, Missouri Liberty Coalition, Ozarks Watchful EYE and other community volunteers will gather at the flood plain site around 9a.m. and begin a day long clean-up effort.

Any citizen interested in volunteering for the clean-up effort is welcome and can meet the group at the site, which is located on West Bypass, just north of the Wil Fischer Distribution Facility. Wil Fischer has generously donated their parking lot for volunteer parking.

Volunteer coordinator Tom Martz said, “The James River Floodplain in this specific location has deteriorated in recent years with the buildup of trash and debris. I am grateful that these environmentally conscious community organizations have decided to combine their efforts and assist in cleaning up this important property; not only for beautification purposes but also to benefit flood control in the area.”

Allied Waste has generously donated two dumpsters for trash and debris removal. Sun Belt Environmental has volunteered to remove any potential hazardous materials that may be discovered. Cox Ambulance Service will generously provide the services of a paramedic for any potential mishaps. Mozark Environmental will donate water and Golden Corral will donate lunch for all volunteers.

“We are extremely grateful to Wil Fischer, Allied Waste, Sun Belt Environmental, Cox, Mozark Environmental, and Golden Corral for donating equipment and services for this worthwhile clean-up project. These environmental conscious businesses should be commended for their willingness to work side by side with our citizens to make our community a better place,” added Mr. Martz.
