Merry Christmas 2008 - 1: Little Drummer Boy Countdown

(These are just my top five picks from the videos I viewed at "YouTube." I certainly didn't view them all! One of my requirements of consideration was that drums had to be featured. It's amazing to me how many versions of The Little Drummer Boy there are that have little or no drums in them. It was difficult choosing between my number 1 and number 2 for the top spot, however, I liked the honesty of my number 1 choice and the depth of the drums so, it won out in the end.)

5. Duncan McCall Pipe Band / Little Drummer Boy

4. Little Drummer Boy, David Bowie and Bing Crosby

3. Little Drummer Boy featuring awesome drum solo

2. Josh Groban Little Drummer Boy

1. Little Drummer Boy - Johnny Cash and Neil Young

I love the one with Bing Crosby and David Bowie! I have to say that would be my favorite. But, I can definitely see why you picked the other one as number one. :)

I loved them all for different reasons.

I was hoping others would weigh in on their favorites too, so thanks Angel!

I'm with Angel on this one. Bing Crosby and David Bowie were magical together! I remember watching the Bing Crosby Christmas special the year they sang as though it was yesterday. My whole family was mesmerized, particularly my parents who were pre-conditioned to dislike David Bowie because they thought him "weird." LOL I still get goosebumps listening to the duet. Thanks, Jackie.

Watching the Bing/Bowie video today is fitting because today is a day for remembering, I guess. I've spent the day remembering the birth of my oldest and of various times since because she, my baby, married her fiance today in a quick ceremony before a judge at the courthouse while I and his parents watched. My very new son-in-law will be leaving for basic training anytime between January and August after being sworn into the US Army two weeks ago, and they wanted to be married now in case he gets called away sooner rather than later. The big, formal wedding is being planned for this summer. I'm happy for them because this is what they wanted, but I still find myself crying every time I turn around. ::sigh::

I'll send you the pics from today as soon as I get 'em, Jackie. HUGS!

Jackie, if you can track down an interview Bowie did a few years back with Mojo music magazine. Bowie says that Crosby collapsed during the first run through of the song and parameds almost didn't revive him. The next take Crosby was perfect and that was the one that was used.
